According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), the dentist should see your child around his or her first birthday or within six months following the first tooth.
At North Port Family Dental, our well-trained staff understands that your child may be uneasy in a pediatric dentistry environment, especially during the first visit. We will do everything we can to put your child at ease. We want your child to enjoy coming to the dentist, and our pediatric patients love it here!
What Happens During the First Visit
During your child’s first oral health check, our dentist will examine your child’s bite and pay special attention to the way his or her teeth are erupting. At this stage, the dentist will look for potential issues that may arise later and put together a proactive plan to help give your child the best smile and optimal oral health going forward.
A dental cleaning may be performed during the initial visit. Sometimes, the dentist opts for a topical fluoride rinse to give your child a great head start in cavity prevention.
What Happens After the First Visit?
Following the exam and any treatments, the dentist will discuss any dental issues or concerns with you. Also, you will have the opportunity to ask questions.
Our staff or the dentist will show you how to brush properly and care for your child’s teeth and explain how to soothe teething issues going forward.
We want to provide your child with the best dental care and help him or her develop healthy habits that will last into adulthood. You and your child’s comfort and ease at our dental office are an important part of great future outcomes.
